Meet Joanne

Knowledge & Skill

I have been involved in this field for over 30 years.
Having led the education in BC on Representation Agreements and related legislation as Executive Director of the Nidus Personal Planning Resource Centre, I have insight into the dynamics of social change.
My knowledge of legal topics in this field is extensive. I have researched and written about Representation Agreements, Enduring Powers of Attorney, Advance Directives, Health Care Consent, Medical Assistance in Dying, Tips for Making a Will, Dying Without a Will, Joint Ownership and more…

Experience & Expertise

Having helped thousands of people to learn about, make and use Representation Agreements and related legal documents, I’ve learned a lot – about people and about the law.
Having presented at conferences in Germany, South Korea, United States and Japan and been a speaker at government guardianship conferences in Australia and Canada, I’ve gained lots of insight. British Columbia is a leader when it comes to advancing human rights for people with cognitive or intellectual disabilities.
My personal experience with dementia and Parkinson Disease gives me lots of practical tips to share.
It has been a challenge and privilege to help people make and use Representation Agreements to address many situations – brain injury, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, mental illness, stroke, cancer, ALS, autism, residential school settlements, Woodlands survivor settlements, surgery, and more.

My concern is accessibility. For 23+ years I helped Nidus make Representation Agreement forms and information available. Sometimes people want to customize the forms – get help.

My goal is to encourage people to make a plan BEFORE a crisis!

The law belongs to the people – you can make legal planning documents to help yourself and others. If you do nothing, authority will be imposed on you.
